We need an E-Mail system
The Service Desk received this from a user, I don't think he likes Lotus Notes:
Subject: Unable to copy file attachment: Database is currently in use by you or another user
From: RW
Date: 27/08/2005
We need an E-Mail system, not a buggy, slow, ununderstandable and moreover unnecessary data base application!
Read the conversation that followes, after this the problem was sent to me.

Hello,
> Good afternoon Mr. RW,
> we understand your disappointment.
Thanks for your understanding, I still would prefer not being forced to use LN.
> From your mail it seems a Lotus Notes system crash.
Oh, I have noticed that. But the question is what came before the crash.
> Does this happen often in a day? Does it appear opening particular files or on any kind of them and randomly?
Lotus Notes Crash is one thing. It happens too often, it happens in particular when editing a long text message - and when crashing, no backup is kept of messages currently being composed. How many times have I printed out screen snapshots and typed the text in again, because this is often the only way of recovering at least part of the text under editing, once LN crashes. It would happen several times a day, if one tried to make a normal use of this program, browsing, copying, pasting, deleting in a normal rhythm. However, users (I hear the same thing from colleagues) are already 'trained' in the deficiencies and have slowed down there pace of working, thus avoiding a number of crashes. But let the crashes aside, which are inherent to many - in particular windows - programs...
What I am wondering about (and maybe you can give an explanation to it....) is the logic of: Unable to copy file attachment: Database is currently in use by you or another user
> Please provide the details of your account ....is it your personal mail database ?
It is. The strange message happened trying to copy out attachments of a mail message (my personal mail files) into a shared database. So where is the logic of restricting copy (i.e. read access) from objects where I am myself the owner, and what is the logic of this unprecise 'by you or another user'. If there is an access conflict, than users should at least be given the chance to resolve it by giving precise information.
As unlogical it is, still if you could give me any explanation to the phenomenon, it may help me to avoid or resolve the problem in the future.
Best regards,
RW

What noise?
Hey! A new category again?
Yep, I receive a lot of weird requests, typos and other fun things at work. So I'll select the best and post them. Today a user is complaining about some bad noise. Our users report their problems at a call center in Italy. This is what the error report said:
"very bad noise from the fun"
Sometimes their English is a bit fanny ;)
