Despite daily headlines bemoaning record gas prices in the U.S., it's actually one of the cheaper places to fill up in the world. The Netherlands is in fourth place. We pay $8.37 a gallon. Of that an staggering 62% goes to the government. The gas station has a 3% margin, before profit tax. 1% goes to the oil company's and the rest is production and distribution costs.
