Paul Verhoeven is directing a new movie. After directing some Dutch movies he moved to the US and made movies like Robocop, Total Recall en Basic Instinct. But now he's back in The Netherlands to direct 'Zwartboek' . Paul Verhoeven was born in Amsterdam but moved to The Hague (where we live) during WWII. This week they are shooting for the movie in our neighbourhood. Check out these EXCLUSIVE pictures...

We need an E-Mail system

The Service Desk received this from a user, I don't think he likes Lotus Notes:

Subject: Unable to copy file attachment: Database is currently in use by you or another user

We need an E-Mail system, not a buggy, slow, ununderstandable and moreover unnecessary data base application!

Read the conversation that followes, after this the problem was sent to me.

CNN weatherman loses his cool

Ok, maybe this guy was working too long, or has some problems at home. Maybe he was just very excited to tell people about hurricane Katrina, but felt he didn't get a honest change. Anyway, he loses his cool and acts like a baby.... very funny to see his face when he realizes he almost cried on live television.

NYC Subway pervert

A young women (friendly_chic407, whats in a name?) was riding on the subway when a man exposed and began molesting himself on the train. She took a picture of him with her phone and posted it on Flickr. A reporter from the Daily News stumbled on this story and contacted her. They printed the story and the image in the Daily News. And now you are reading it! And I'm asking you to forward these links to anybody you know in New York. A great example of the power of weblogs :)

Hurricane Katrina blogs and Flickr

Machpi will be posting as long as there is power and internet. Check his "before" pictures. He is right in the middel of it at Long Beach, MS.

More pictures can be found on Flickr.

The old media outlets also have weblogs. CNN has Miles O'Brien's hurricane blog. The USA Today Blog doesn't work to well in Firefox, but at least you can read the text.

To donate to refugees, here’s a link to the American Red Cross.

Things you might have mist in the news, probably because it wasn't in there

During the summer months there is often less news here in The Netherlands and since newspapers and TV still want to provide you with something they serve you less interesting news. In Dutch we revere to this as "komkommertijd" or "cucumber time". It's a period filled with "Man bites dog" and "Biggest pizza ever in Italy" stories that tend to bore you to death.

But the past week I noticed something. A lot of things are happening in the world but the newspapers and TV seem to miss them. Are reporters and journalist all on vacation? Did they loose their internet connections? Or are they just to stupid to visit digg.com, read popular weblogs and listen to Podcasts?

Here are some of the stories that I missed and you might have missed in the news, probably because it wasn't in there....

Suicide bomber strikes on bus in China on August 8. link
Nanotechnology kills cancer cells. link
U.S. ready to make bird flu vaccine. link
Tell the FCC to stick it…kick it, The revolution’s on! $8.85 million in venture investment for Podshow. link
We are having a baby. link

Let me know what you think that not got the attention in the regular news it deserves.

The secret is out!
