What's the news?

Kim suggested something fun to do: "Guess what the news is"

As some of you noticed, Sweety's been very quiet lately on her weblog. I promised you I'd tell you why that is, but will wait a few more days. Don't worry, it's A L L G O O D :)

So what do you think the news is that Sweety and I are hiding from you?

Man offers goats, cows for Chelsea Clinton

A love-struck Kenyan government official has offered former U.S. President Bill Clinton 40 goats and 20 cows for his daughter Chelsea's hand in marriage.

"Had I succeeded in wooing Chelsea, I would have had a grand wedding," Chepkurgor said.

"I would have invited South African Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu to preside at the ceremony."

Smile while you still can :)

Microsoft attempts to patent the creation of emoticons. That's right, evertime you smile :) or wink ;) you'll have to pay Microsoft. I think I'll file a patent for creating words by putting individual letters in a pre-defined order *wink*.

Today I received an interesting e-mail from Amber Waves Pygmy Goats. A reciprocal link invite. Here's the e-mail with some coments in bold....

Hello,

My web site is all about goats and is very popular with goat people.

Goat people? Like this guy?

We just opened our new improved Amber Waves site. We have a new section in our photo gallery for historical goats and would like to invite you to be one of the first to add your goats to our historical section.

Yeah, my goats will love that!

Before we took the old site down we were getting about 3000-7000 hits a day and growing.

To Link to our site please visit the below link. If you need another
categorie let me know.

If you have any articles on your farm we would love to add them in our article section under Breeder Profiles.

I'll start writing one this weekend! Gee, I'm exited about getting my farm listed under Breeder Profiles. I never considered myself a Breeder (the owner of a female at the time of conception).

We are looking for authors to add to our increasing library of
information if you might be interested or know of anyone.

Anyone? If you're interested just drop me an e-mail and I'll forward it to Debby. This is chance!

We include full linking information for each article back to the authors web site.

Diversity Lottery 2006 results

The Department of State's Visa Bulletin for August was publicized today. It has the results for the Diversity Lottery 2006. There were 6.3 million qualified entries.

Turns out that of the 90.000 selected winners, only 105 are from The Netherlands (plus 8 on the Netherlands Antilles). That's about the same as last year (130) but remarkable lower if compared with the 698 Belgium winners. Go Belgium! Or is it a typo? It might be since there are also 698 winners from Belarus. Belarus and Belgium are underneath each other in the list.

Since we did not receive a notification letter, I guess we didn't win this year :(

There will be a new Diversity Lottery for 2007 so better luck next year!

Tolerating a Time Bomb

Dutch writer Leon de Winter writes in the New York Times:

"For centuries the Netherlands has been considered the most tolerant and liberal nation in the world. That Netherlands no longer exists."

I don't fully agree with Mr. de Winter's analysis but at least I'm very glad to see a better image of Pim Fortuyn in the International press (finally):

"He was a liberal with respect to personal freedom and a conservative with respect to social norms and values - that is, he was a classic tolerant Dutchman.

Proud to be gay, he protested against the religiously based homophobia openly espoused in the Muslim ghettos. Yet he also emphasized the need for integrating Muslims into larger society and tolerance for their faith. His political incorrectness shocked the press and political establishment, but many among the traditional citizenry recognized Mr. Fortuyn as a kindred spirit. This unconventional gay politician spoke up for the conventional middle-class heterosexual. At the time he was killed by an animal-rights advocate in 2002, he was the front-runner to become prime minister."

Dutch in Florida

Dutch weblog by a couple that moved from The Netherlands to Florida in March 2005. They won their Green Card with the Diversity Lottery. If you can read Dutch you can get a lot of information about the DV Lottery and what to expect when you win. If you can't read Dutch you're out of luck :)

The Netherlands has the worst performing economy of all 25 countries in the European Union. Do I really need to explain why this is another reason to leave?
