Birthday

A year older, and wiser? Well, I’m 29 now. Just 52 weeks before the big 30. Just 12 months before I definitely say goodbye to my twenties. A weird sense of urgency is creeping in. Almost 30 and not married, no children, no bachelor degree and still living in the city I was born in. Time for change. And something tells me things are about to change the coming year. So stay tuned :)

As Sweety told you my birthday didn’t go as planned. I had invited some friends and family on Saturday but had a really bad migraine. For me a bad migraine is not being able to hold any food or drinks for 24 hours…. That’s right, starting Friday, just before midnight, I didn’t eat or drink again till Sunday 1 a.m. Except for one attempt Saturday morning that came out within minutes. So Sweety had to call the guests and reschedule for Sunday. Thanks for being such a Sweety for me when I’m sick Sweety!

Sunday came and I was doing a lot better, just tired and a bit thirsty :) I needed to get some lastminute groceries. Arg… I hate Dutch store hours. I took the car-on-demand to a large grocery store. I was sure it would be open on Sunday. Well, yes, but they wouldn’t open till noon. And the car had to be back at 12:15. So I drove to three other stores, they where all closed. After bringing the car back I took the tram and walked to the first store again. What a waste of time, money and valuable energy.

After doing the groceries I came home to discover I didn’t get the Pesto dressing I needed. So I walked to an “evening” store, closer but doesn’t have that much stuff. When I was back, and wanted to start cooking, Sweety informed me that in her attempt to split the Evil Eggs for the Tiramusu she used a bit more eggs than planned. In other words: back to the store again. When I finally really started cooking it was two hours later that I had wanted. And first I had thought I might get some sleep before the guests would come :)

Then everybody from Texas cancelled. I don’t know what happened but all three felt sick. It must be a Texan thing :) Other people cancelled and in the end it where our good friend Mel, Sweety’s parents and my family that showed up. I always end up with the best!

Because I started cooking late, I was still busy when everybody had arrived. Luckily Sweety, my mother and my brother’s wife helped out. So I was in the kitchen with three lovely women. Like I said: I always end up with the best.

Diner came out great and I think everybody enjoyed it. But I was really, really tired so even though I enjoyed the good company I was kinda glad everybody left a bit early. All-in-all I had a nice birthday. Can’t wait to see what this year will bring me….
