I'm using Firefox too, and Google Desktop works with it fine. Do you get an error installing Google Desktop? When I installed it it even asked if i wanted to use Firefox. Before you start using the Google Desktop, read their privacy policy, some information about the content of you PC might be send to Google for "statistics" and advertisements.
