Dutch World champion

Denise Mulder took a plane to the USA and did her thing to win. Win what? Well, the World Pole Dance Championship, what else would the Dutch Miss Striptease of 2002 do? Mulder attributed her championship title to the originality of her act. During her Lara Croft-style act on Sunday, she combined stripping with pole dancing in a way that had not previously been seen in the striptease world.

Mulder is a Gouda redident. You remember Gouda from al the Dutch Cheese?

No sex please, we're Dutch

I know there are some major developing stories at the moment. The wildfires in California, Duncan Smith voted out and something with Russian miners.
But today The Netherlands are also in a major CCN newsstory....

Why is it that when The Netherlands is mentioned it's either about sex, drug or both? Like mentioned in the story it's true that we are keener to ban violence than sex from tv. Maybe both should be behind some decoder.

Anyway, read all about "This Is How You Screw" and how bestiality on the internet is making sex programs loose their audience.....

Big Business

The Dutch have always been very business minded. Just think about big Dutch companies as Shell, ING and Philips. How about the Dutch Golden Age when our trade was top ranking in the world. Spices were imported by the Dutch East India Company in bulk and brought huge profits. These days we donŽt just trade, we produce a lot too. It is with pride (not) that i present to you our Production Top 5:

1. Dutch Cheese, 1 billion Kilo worth 5 billion Euro
2. Weed, 500,000 kilo worth 2,3 billion Euro
3. XTC, 155,000,000 pills worth 1,5 billion Euro
4. Tomato, 303 million worth 454.5 million Euro
5. Bell Pepper, 192.5 million Kilo worth 385 million Kilo.

Thanks to Dutch Curry and Highlife.

California wildfires

It's terrible to see the images of the wildfires in Calafornia. The five-day old Grand Prix Fire has torched more than 35,000 acres and the nearby Old Fire -- previously called the Waterman Canyon Fire -- has already consumed more than 10,000 acres and more than 200 homes in less than 24 hours.

As many as 12,000 homes in the region are under some form of evacuation. More than 4,000 firefighters battle erratic, wind-driven flames.

Again, feedroom offers free up-to-date regional video:

Hope

It's almost november and that means it's almost time to enter the Diversity Lottery program :) It's really exciting.... though the chances of winning are small, it does give hope. And as we say in Holland: "Hoop doet leven" (Hope keeps you alive).

Our friends Kev & Mel offered to help as make photo's according to the guidelines. I'll go through the rules once more to be sure we have everything we need to enter the Lottery. Not that i haven't read the rules more than a hundred times by now :)

And remember, do it yourself:
No fee is charged to enter the annual DV program. The U.S. Government employs no outside consultants or private services to operate the DV program. Any intermediaries or others who offer assistance to prepare DV casework for applicants do so without the authority or consent of the U.S. Government. Use of any outside intermediary or assistance to prepare a DV entry is entirely at the applicant's discretion.

Big cats

Two stories in the news this week show that tigers are not suitable as pets or entertainers. First there's the white tiger that attacked Roy (you know, from Siegfried and Roy). Roy is still in critical condition at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. The attacking tiger, which was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and raised by a private breeder, was quarantined at The Mirage following the attack.

The other story is about the 400-pound Bengal tiger living in an Harlem apartment building. The tiger was sharing his apartment with a caiman. Remember the caiman? Their spittle is poisonous. But who cares about that....
